On 12 May 1879, Georgina Waller married James Stubbs, in St. Nicholas, Liverpool.
After his mother died in 1895, where were Richard, 7, and George, 10, in 1901? And their father James for that matter? I found a Richard aged 8 and a George aged 10, living with a Martha Stubbs in Birkenhead. Martha is listed as wife but no husband is present, and she has a son Charles Stubbs who is 0 years old. It is a possibility. Otherwise, perhaps they went to the workhouse? I did find a baptism for a Charles Stubbs on 20 February 1901 in Birkenhead St. Paul (the same parish where she was living in the Census), parents James and Martha Stubbs, but no birth register entry nor any marriage record. It must be them, surely?
In Q4 1922 Richard Stubbs married Hilda Brereton in Congleton, Cheshire (a Mary Brereton had married James Colby Waller (1864-1940) in 1889, and Christopher George’s widow Margaret Elizabeth went on to marry Robert Henry Brereton in 1947. I can’t be sure this is “our” Richard Stubbs, but if not it’s quite a coincidence.
