Eliza Pendleton (née Waller) (1878-1962)

On 26 December 1878 Eliza Waller (1878-1962) was born. Her birth was registered in Q1 1879. She was baptised on 12 September 1880 at Birkenhead St. Peter, father’s occupation was Labourer and address 267 Moon Street.

In Q3 1903, Eliza married William Pendleton, 21 and son of George and Ellen Pendleton of Tranmere, in Birkenhead. Banns were read at Bidstone on 14 September 1902.

On 7 March 1905 William John Pendleton was born, and he was baptised on 23 April at Birkenhead St. John. The family home was 18 Bentinck Place, which is still standing.

In 1911 they were living at 5 Grange Place, just around the corner from Bentinck Place, and it too is still standing. William was aged 27 and a General Labourer, birth year 1884, Eliza was 32 and birth year 1879, and William J. was 6.

In the 1939 register (taken on 29 September) they were still at 5 Grange Place. William was a Transport Foreman and his birth date is 29 October 1883, so he was 55. Eliza gave her birth date as 26 December 1881 making her 57, but she was actually 60. William John was a Corporation Labourer aged 34.

William died in Q3 1941 aged 57 in Birkenhead. Eliza died in Q4 1962 aged 83 in Birkenhead.

There are two marriages listed for a William J Pendleton. One in 1936 to Tegwen F. Evans, although he was listed as single in 1939 so this can’t be him. The other is in Q1 1941 to Ethel Lowres.

William John Pendleton died in Q4 1973 in Birkenhead.
