She was baptised on 25 November 1883 at Birkenhead Holy Trinity, and it was recorded on the same page as Edward’s brother’s (John James’) daughters Martha and Jane, who had been baptised there on 28 October 1883. Father’s occupation Labourer. Parents’ names recorded as Edward Ancel and Jane Waller.
At some point between 1884 and 1886, Edward Ansell and Jane moved to West Ham.

Edward’s nephew Edward A. Waller, 9, and niece Annie Waller, 8, are staying with them. These are his brother James Colby’s children (the other one, Amelia, being with Mary Brereton senior).
In Q1 1905, the death of George James Waller was registered in West Ham.
In the 1911 Census they are still in Canning Town. Edward “Ancell” Waller is 55 and a Stevedore, Jane is 55 (birthplace “Beventon Chisher” rather than Bebington Cheshire), Christopher John, 20, is a Soldier in the Dragoon Guards, Edward William, 18, occupation India Rubber Works, and Eliza Annie is 16. Edward and Jane reported they had had 9 children, 4 were still living and 5 had died. Amelia was still alive, having married Joshua Hunt in 1903, in which case George James did indeed die in 1905. 2 children are still to be found.
Christopher John’s Medal Card shows he was a Private, and was on active service with the 1st Dragoon Guards, a Cavalry unit, from 11 November 1914. They were based in Lucknow India and on 11 November 1914 landed at Marseilles, from where they went to the Western Front. They went back to India in October 1917.
Edward’s wife Jane’s death was registered in Q1 1915.
On 21 January 1917 Edward William Waller, 25, of 42 Cundy Road, married Mabel Sarah Mary Holloway, 19, of 237 Prince Regent’s Lane, father Francis William Holloway, Labourer, in the Parish of St. Andrew, Plaistow. In the presence of Francis William and Priscilla Holloway.
Mabel gave birth to Edward William’s son, Edward William Lewis Waller, on 14 June 1917. He was baptised on 4 July 1917, mother’s name recorded as Mabel Sarah May rather than Mabel Sarah Mary.
On either 22 or 28 August 1920 (two records exist), Christopher John Waller married Elsie Maude Bacon, daughter of George Bacon.

His wife Elsie M. Waller’s date of birth is given as 4 July 1900. Son Reginald A.J. Waller, born 24 November 1923 (15), is single and a Farm Carter. Son Peter L. Waller, born 6 May 1925 (14), is single and also a Farm Carter.
Sydney Edward George Waller was called up on 1 September 1939 and served with the 1st / 4th Essex Regiment.
Sydney married Margaret J. Hanshaw in Hendon Middlesex in 1947. They had three children, Christopher W. in 1949, Stephen P. in 1951 and Simon P. in 1955. The family later emigrated to Canada.
In the 1939 register Eliza Ann and George Albert Dickerson, a Retort House (?) Flue Cleaner, are living at 10 James Street, Barking with son George Edward. The official transcript has missed George senior and included the man next door, Frederick Batchelor, with Eliza and George Edward.
On 10 May 1941, a Saturday (at the very end of the Blitz), Edward William Waller of 83 Brock Road died at 237 Prince Regent’s Lane, his wife’s family home. He is recorded on the CWGC website as Civilian War Dead. His age is stated to be 44, but he was 48. The death register has his name incorrectly as William E Waller and again aged 44.
Also killed were his wife Mabel’s mother Mary Ann (known as Polly) Thurston, and her stepfather William Henry Thurston.
